Key Principles· Transportation is the number one issue impacting the economic sustainability of San Juan County’s communities and businesses and the everyday quality of life of residents.
· The role of intermodal transportation in reducing pollution and congestion will be largely determined by public policy at several levels of government and partnerships among various public agencies, private providers and the citizens of San Juan County. Program Content
We had an exciting set of speakers that presented short topics to seed our facilitated "World Cafe" format discussions in each of our six Conversations.
Thank you for attending!Close to 200 people attended the first ever Transportation Summit on September 17, 2008 at the San Juan County Fairgrounds. Attendees were exposed to present and future transportation needs and challenges. They generated actionable ideas for improved transportation in the islands and began the collaboration to implement those transportation solutions. If community results are to come from the Summit, it is the people who attended who will need to step up and organize around their particular issue. Some of the actions are individual (be a role model, each one teach two, etc.) and some of the actions will require legislative action or entrepreneurial creativity. We invite everyone who attended to continue the conversation and work together to find economically and environmentally sustainable multimodal transportation solutions for San Juan County. An Executive Summary and session notes from each session are available under the "Outcomes" button of this website. Hard copies of all materials as well as videos of sessions and photos from the graphic recording will be available at local libraries by the end of October.
The San Juan Islands Transportation Forum is dedicated to continuing the transportation related conversations
begun at the September 17, 2008, Transportation Summit, among citizens, elected officials, and transportation providers.
